Manors
A manor is a piece of land with fields, pastures, a church, a mill, and a small village. Manors were run by the lord or noble who got the land or fief from a king in exchange for protection. The lord lived in the manor house, which was the largest house on the manor. The knights lived in smaller houses that they were given to by the lord in exchange for protection.
Serfs or peasants worked on the land and received small payments but mostly for protection. Manors were self-sufficient and everything needed for everyday life was located on the manor.
